One year down, 2 to go!
Last May, I decided I was going to apply for my master’s degree, and I did.
NYU was always a grad school I had in mind, and it was clear that I would join
NYU when I found programs that suited my current interests.
Maybe it hasn’t been an easy first year overall, but I definitely powered
through. I submitted the application by the beginning of July last year and on
the 28th of July at 3 in the morning, I got my acceptance letter (via email
this time 🙂 back in 2004 and 2005, we received phone calls and acceptances by
post).
MSC Management of Technology, Tandon School of Engineering, NYU. I am an online
part time student, I have learned to work with different timezones and take
tests at 3 in the morning. I’ve attended classes at 2 and 3 am my time, and
submitted quite a number of papers, projects and presentations.
I’ve already met so many new people, got to know some online classmates and
learn so many new things. 1 down, 2 to go.
If anything, it’s been interesting to see this year’s tech advances, seeing
how AI is shaping the future, the scares, the learnings and how companies are
adopting new tech. There’s yet so much to learn and to understand, but I found
it very interesting to be working in the retail / hospitality industry,
witnessing changes from a marketing and thinking POVs and the sort of
challenges, risks and new technology is adding to our day to day lives. And
we’ve barely uncovered what’s yet to come!
This is an appreciation post to myself, but also to making a decision and
powering through with it. Never underestimate what you’re capable of. Maybe I
inspire someone to take a new step or a different path. I’m taking summer off,
no classes because I missed not doing ‘something’ for 20 hours of my day. But
I’ll be back in fall fully energized.
To the family and chosen family who supported me and are still supporting
me, to my work colleagues who put up with my ‘going back to uni’ endless talks,
to those closest to my heart always pushing me, waking me up to attend class
and keeping me grounded, thank you.
I’ll be back with more posts this summer.
Dee xx
